Susie FineAss LaSoya

Jesusita (Susie) LaSoya Feinstein died Wednesday, 1/20/99 in Orange, CA from breast cancer at age 43. Susie began hashing after a cancer surgery which prevented her from golfing and other legitimate pursuits. I met Susie at the 11/91 Over the Hill Run, fell in love and pursued her until she finally broke down and agreed to marry me. In 1995 we had a sensible hash wedding at Accidental Tourist's and 3 Dog Floosey's joint and lived very happily every after.

Susie had a long successful fight with her persistent cancer. In 1992, after being pronounced cancer free, she had a remission and was given 30 days to live. Her first marathon was scheduled the very next month in December of 92 and she just said her death would have to wait until she completed Honolulu. With SMB as her coach she did quite well and displayed enough class that she even waited for me to finish before going back to the hotel. After doing Honolulu she decided running and hashing would be one of her main treatments against cancer. It worked. A dozen or so marathons, several 50kms, 2 Avalon 50s, thousands of training miles on the streets and in the hills, and many many many fishing trips and mountain climbs we celebrated 8 glorious years together.

Unfortunately the cancer metastasized to Susie's liver in the fall of 98 and this is what she eventually succumbed to. Susie's life has been one victory after another and I feel very fortunate to have shared in a brilliant but far too short experience. I have lost my best friend who happens to also be my cherished and beloved wife.
